You will get the chance to explore the oldest part of the city reaching back to the 13th century with its medieval grid of the streets. But it will be a very specific walk though - namely all the original buildings were set on fire during Warsaw Uprising 1944. And yet due to the enormous effort of the Polish nation they have been lovingly and meticulously reconstructed after WWII. Unesco has respected this enormous accomplishment and registered the Old Town alongside with the later reconstructed Royal Castle on the list of World Heritage Sites. We will stroll down the narrow streets to the colourful Market Square - full of life now and back in time. Through the Barbican - fortified medieval gate we will enter the New Town.
We will meet in front of the Sigismund III Wasa column - the king who proclaimed Warsaw the capital city of Poland (and not only Poland. . . ) You will learn why Warsaw was chosen to the main city in the country After crossing the medieval city walls we will enter the courtyard of the Royal Castle - kind of a Polish Pentagon. Why ? You will learn it too Then we will walk down the St John street to enter the St John's Cathedral. We will be for sure amazed by the beauty of the Old Town's Market Square The end of the city is marked by the fortified city gate so called Barbican In the New Town we will see the birthhouse of Madame Curie. Yes, she was born in Warsaw, being later proud of it. Poles know her under her maiden name Skłodowska. Lets walk to the river down the route beloved by her.
