About 150 years ago, the age of the samurai came to an end, and a storm of modernization began. Old townscapes were torn down and replaced with modern buildings. Horses gave way to machines, and the old was abandoned for the new. This was the story of Kyoto. In France, a painter named Millet moved to a small village called Barbizon during the turmoil of the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. There, he painted peaceful nature and hardworking farmers, believing some things must not be lost. In the same spirit, Kyoto chose to protect what had been preserved for over a thousand years. Today, tens of thousands of cultural treasures remain. As a guide specializing in history and culture, I invite you to explore Kyoto’s soul with me.
Destinations change from season to season. Arashiyama, Nanzenji, Higashiyama District, Golden Pavilion, Fushimi Inari Shrine, Nishiki Market, Shogun-zuka Gion, Yogenin, Hokaiji, Ryogenin, Seiryoji, Mansyuin, Eikando Dry gardens, Landscape gardens, Tea gardens
