In 4 to 5 hours, I’ll take you by private car along narrow dike roads to explore the breathtaking Dutch reclamations. We’ll visit a beautifully restored windmill and stop at De Rijp, a charming village with its historic town hall, wooden bridge, and centuries-old houses. Despite being part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, the oldest polder in the country (completed in 1612!) feels serene, with few tourists due to its remote location. Instead, you’ll encounter locals, peaceful meadows, and grazing herds. This signature tour is designed to offer a truly authentic experience of the Dutch countryside. Along the way, I’ll share fun stories, from quirky Dutch expressions to the meaning behind clog decorations. Available year-round, the itinerary may vary slightly in the off-season (November to March) to include alternative windmills or villages, depending on seasonal openings.
Morning Pick-Up Pick-up from your hotel in Amsterdam. Drive north to the Island Polder, an area transformed from large lakes into unique farmland. Travel along narrow dike roads, passing picturesque villages. Visit a beautifully restored windmill from 1611 and explore its interior. Village of De Rijp Stroll through this charming village with a drawbridge, historic town hall, and wooden houses. Enjoy time for lunch and a relaxing walk. Beemster Region Optional are a visit to cheeseshop or a cheese/woondeshoe maker. Winter season variation Adjusted itinerary as some windmills are closed, but the tour remains equally enjoyable.
