This excursion takes us to the picturesque village of Kovačica, located 48 km (30 miles) northeast of Belgrade, known worldwide for its Naive art school. In 1802, about two hundred Slovak Protestant families migrated to the southern Austro-Hungarian Empire and settled in Kovačica. For nearly 140 years, they lived traditionally, farming and practicing their Lutheran faith. After World War II, a creative surge among the villagers led to the emergence of Naive art, reflecting their emotions, habits, and daily life in a pure and joyful style, similar to children's expression. This art form, recognized globally from Tokyo to New York, continues today. During our visit, we'll explore galleries and ateliers, including the main Gallery of Naive Art, featuring works by Martin Jonaš and Zuzana Chalupova. We'll also visit the home of a renowned violin maker. Duration: 4 hours.
From your address in Belgrade we will travel to the province of Vojvodina and the village of Kovačica. After the visit, we will return to Belgrade, and your accommodation.
