There are plenty of worthwhile places to visit if you venture a little out into the Danish countryside. On this trip, you'll be conveniently and comfortably transported to and guided around the most significant historic monuments on the island of Zealand. Said to be the castle that Shakespeare had in mind when writing Hamlet, the medieval fortress of Kronborg dominates the straight between Denmark and Sweden. It's featured prominently in many a battle! Frederiksborg Castle, however, has a different ambiance. Its fountains, courts, gardens and chapel recall regal luxury and formality - mind your Ps and Qs! The tour also takes in Roskilde Cathedral. Roskilde is the country's historic capital, and all Danish regents are buried in the Cathedral's elaborate tombs. In Roskilde we'll also see some actual Viking longships. Recovered more in less intact from the waters of Roskilde Fjjord, they're the type of vessels that Viking warriors set sail in to spread terror as far as the Mediterranean.
Your day starts when I collect you from your location, and drive you north of Copenhagen to the town of Helsingør where we'll visit Kronborg Castle. From there, we head south to the town of Hillerød and Frederiksborg Castle. After stopping for lunch in Hillerød, we're off again, this time heading east to the town of Roskilde and UNESCO World Heritage Site Roskilde Cathedral. Our sightseeing finishes when we complete the brief journey to Roskilde's Viking Ship Museum, which as well as featuring actual historic vessels is home to full scale working replica warships built along traditional lines. When the day is done, I'll return you to your accomodation for a well-earned nights rest.
